50 Cent responds to Taylor Swift name-checking him on her new album
Taylor Swift released her new album The Life of a Showgirl on October 3rd, which bizarrely features a mention of 50 Cent. Following its release, the G-Unit rapper has reacted to the lyrics.
The singer shouts out 50 on ‘Ruin the Friendship’, name-dropping the rapper in the chorus of the song from her 12th studio effort.
She sings, “And it was not an invitation/ But as the 50 Cent song played/ Should’ve kissed you anyway/ And it was not convenient, no/ Would’ve been the best mistake/ Should’ve kissed you anyway, hey.”
It’s unclear what song Swift is referencing. Taking to social media, 50 showed his excitement about making an appearance in the lyrics.
“@taylorswift shit is popping right now, she shout me out, she don’t shout you out. LOL,” he wrote on Instagram. “THIS IS FOR BIG TIMERS ONLY! @50centaction. wait I’m the only shout out on the whole album.”
Produced by Swift, Max Martin, and Shellback, the song is about regrets over not having a romantic relationship with a former friend.
‘Ruin the Friendship‘ already has over 28 million streams on Spotify, along with a further 2.7 million plays on YouTube.
Despite 50 claiming he’s the only shout-out on the entire album, Swift actually has a whole song dedicated to Elizabeth Taylor.
50 previously came to Swift’s defence in 2009 after Kanye West famously stormed the stage at the Video Music Awards.
“I wish he would come take one of my awards so I could black his eye in front of everybody,” he told MuchOnDemand. “Even an apology can’t replace what it feels like for the very first time receiving that award. In Taylor Swift‘s head, ‘My first award was Kanye West.’ It’s damaging.”
