Pleasure P claims he deserves credit for Lil Wayne hit ‘Lollipop’

Pretty Ricky member Pleasure P says he should be credited for writing one of Lil Wayne‘s biggest singles. During a recent Instagram Live session, the Miami singer claimed he co-wrote ‘Lollipop’ alongside Static Major and wants compensation.

According to P, the song has made $28million over the years, and he wants some of the rewards that the song received. “I wrote that,” he said. “[‘Lollipop’ co-writer] Rex Zamor, [Lil Wayne’s longtime manager] Tez, Wayne, Mack Maine: I need my fucking plaque for this song, bro. [‘Lollipop’ producer] Jim Jonsin, y’all can do something about this shit. But nobody care about me no more.”

He added: “Rex got my publishing, and he got his name on this record. And I can’t get my just due. Before my first album came out, I wrote this song with Static. My son just got out of jail. I ain’t got time for this shit no more, bro. Just give me what I deserve. I wrote this. I’m a part of [Wayne’s] biggest record, 1.3 million the first week. And I haven’t been able to celebrate that.”

P specifically called out Zamor, who now manages GloRilla. “That’s my old fucking manager, who’s standing behind GloRilla on red carpets because he wants to be seen,” he said. Jonsin previously spoke about the making of ‘Lollipop’ and P’s involvement in the record, but didn’t specifically mention him writing the song.

“I originally did the track for Danity Kane,” he told HipHopDX. “[I] then played it for Pleasure P, formerly of Pretty Ricky while he was working with Static Major, R.I.P. In Miami, Static jumped on it straight away, and heard it for [a track by] Pleasure P featuring Lil Wayne, and Pleasure thought it should be for Lil Wayne, so Static met with Wayne about some other business, and played ‘Lollipop’ for him he loved it.”

Produced by Deezle and Jonsin, ‘Lollipop‘ peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached number 26 in the UK Singles Chart. The track won ‘Best Rap Song’ at the Grammy Awards in 2009, beating Flo Rida’s ‘Low’, Snoop Dogg’s ‘Sexual Eruption’, Lupe Fiasco’s ‘Superstar’ and T.I.’s ‘Swagga Like Us’.

‘Lollipop’ has been certified diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America for selling ten million units in the US.
