The two hip-hop legends that love GloRilla
GloRilla has quickly become one of hip-hop’s most beloved female MCs, and a lot of it is due to her authenticity. With her unbelievably thick Memphis accent and petite figure, she is undoubtedly very different from her counterparts. Compared to other artists, she is seemingly always happy and has gladly collaborated with other females since her breakout in 2022.
GloRilla is a fascinating artist who has played an integral part in the revival of Memphis hip-hop. The Tennessee native was highly renowned in her home state, but between 2019 and 2021 began to gain traction across the South.
Following the release of her mixtapes, Most Likely Up Next (2019) and P Status (2020), the lyricist (real name Gloria Woods) caught the eye of megastar Cardi B. Shortly after, they collaborated and last year released their track ‘Tomorrow 2’. which exploded.
Due to her smiley and warm personality, many other rappers have gravitated towards her, and one legend once admitted that he is a massive fan of GloRilla. That said, during an interview, ‘Gimme Some More’ lyricist Busta Rhymes unveiled that, in his opinion, Glo is “the truth.”
Detailing what he loves about the Memphis newcomer, Busta explained, “What I love about GloRilla – and I hope that we can hold on to this GloRilla as long as possible before she evolves to her Beyoncé level – but the GloRilla that we love is the GloRilla that we see ourselves in.”
He continued, “Like, we see [ourselves] in her. She is unfiltered, she is not politically correct, and she is the truth. And the beauty is when you are untainted by the industry. Her music speaks to my soul like that.” The Brooklyn icon even suggested that she is “worthy of [a] blessing.”
GloRilla continues to rack up celebrity endorsements. Before her Eras Tour show in Miami, popstar Taylor Swift shared a video of herself dancing to GloRilla and Sexyy Red’s ‘Whatchu Kno About Me.’ For some MCs, gaining recognition from top-tier musicians takes over a decade. Still, GloRilla seems to be able to do it with ease.
After Busta Rhymes’ interview, during an interview with TMZ, old-school female rapper Trina gave GloRilla an epic endorsement and explained why she loves what female rappers are doing at the moment. Detailing the musical landscape, Trina began, “It’s so many women now that’s in the industry, they’re really doing their thing,” Trina said. “You’ve got to give it up to them. They’re charting the charts. They’re putting out dope records, dope albums, projects, and collaborations, so it’s actually a great thing to see. I’m loving the energy.”
Still, she couldn’t refrain from admitting that GloRilla is her favourite female, and when asked why, replied, “I would go with Glo because she’s definitely done an amazing job. She’s on her second album, she’s been consistent, she just came off the tour with Meg, and she’s really just making her–she’s just standing on business.”
