Lil Durk shares message from prison on his 33rd birthday
Lil Durk spent his 33rd birthday behind bars at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles. To celebrate, the Chicago rapper sent a message from prison.
Durk has been in jail since October 2024 after being accused of conspiring with others to murder Quando Rondo, resulting in the death of his cousin, Lul Pab.
Over the weekend, a phone call surfaced of the rapper speaking from jail, sharing a special message for his supporters.
“My father had briefed me on what’s going on,” Durk said in the clip, according to HotNewHipHop. “I wanted to let y’all know that I’m proud of y’all, for the sake of Allah. I love y’all. I’m doing better, man. We all got second chances and, you know, I just want to let y’all know that we with y’all one hundred percent.”
He added, “When I get out of here, inshallah, I’ma leave back out. I want to go over there and see y’all and be with y’all. Get y’all brothers all together. I love y’all.”
Durk was charged with one count of conspiracy and one count of use of interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire resulting in death.
He’s also facing one count of using, carrying, and discharging firearms and a machine gun and possession of such firearms in furtherance of a crime of violence resulting in death.
The rapper is scheduled to be sentenced in January 2026 after his trial was pushed back for a second time in September. He faces a possible life sentence.
Durk attempted to dismiss the case earlier this month. His legal team said, “This indictment is impermissibly vague. It leaves the defence to guess as to the government’s theory of guilt, and it leaves the government free to change that theory as its cooperators’ stories morph over time to meet the demands of a conviction.”
