Lil Durk locks in new murder-for-hire trial date after delay

Lil Durk looked all set to begin his murder-for-hire trial in January until it was delayed two weeks before. Now, a new date has been scheduled.

Durk, who is accused of conspiring to murder Quando Rondo, resulting in the death of his cousin, Lul Pab, was previously expected in court on January 20th.

After the other defendants proposed a start date of May 4th, Complex reports that a new date has been put in place: April 21st.

Durk is charged with one count of conspiracy and one count of use of interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire resulting in death, and one count of using, carrying, and discharging firearms and a machine gun and possession of such firearms in furtherance of a crime of violence resulting in death.

The recent delay came after the judge granted a continuance on January 5th. The five other defendants requested a delay, but Durk wanted the trial to proceed.

Documents cited 100s of gigabytes of digital material in evidence, including audio and video recordings, surveillance footage, over 30,000 pages of reports and records, photographs, witness statements, medical documents, and more materials.

“The case is so unusual and so complex, due to the nature of the prosecution and the number of defendants that it is unreasonable to expect preparation for pre-trial proceedings or for the trial itself within the time limits established by the Speedy Trial Act,” the document read.

With the delay, Durk will be spending at least 721 days in custody without bond. If found guilty of the charges against him, he faces up to life in prison.

The trial was previously set to start on January 7th, 2025, and October 14th, 2025, but was also pushed back on those occasions.
