Police say Lil Baby’s “cowardly acts” led to teen murders
Lil Baby shot a music video in Atlanta last year that involved a triple shooting. Now, police are claiming his actions led to the killing of two teenagers.
On February 26th, the Atlanta Police Department hosted a press conference announcing the arrest of seven people for the murders of 13-year-olds Jakody Davis and Lamon Freeman, who were killed at the latter’s birthday party in July 2024.
Major Ralph Woolfolk claimed the murders stemmed from a gang war connected to the shooting on the set of Baby’s video in Northwest Atlanta last May. “Lamon Freeman was allowed to be a 13-year-old for 27 minutes before gang violence ultimately took his life,” he said. “Gang violence that was orchestrated by adults – adults in our city.
“Cowardly acts of an Atlanta-based rapper that decided to go over into a rival gang stronghold and shoot a music video in a place he knew he should not have been. And in the subsequent days, we saw homicides and shootings, and ultimately, the deaths of two children as a result of his cowardly actions.”
He added, “You know who you are. And I tell you that this team will work relentlessly to hold you and the persons that you are affiliated with, responsible for those actions.”
According to Billboard, investigators alleged that a “high-ranking” member from an opposing gang of Baby ordered a hit on Davis and Freeman using a mobile phone from a Georgia prison.
Detective Summer Brenton told Channel 2 after the shooting, “All I can tell you is that these young kids they had absolutely no ties to gangs. They were doing nothing wrong. They were hanging out with each other right outside their apartments.” A reward of $50,000 is being offered for more information.
Baby released his latest album, WHAM, in January, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 with 140,000 units in its first week. The project featured Travis Scott, 21 Savage, Young Thug, Future, GloRilla, Rylo Rodriguez and Rod Wave, and saw the rapper “experiment” with his sound and flows. His new album, Dominique, is set to arrive sometime in 2025.
