Latto reveals why she doesn’t want to beef with Ice Spice

Rap battles have always been present within the hip-hop scene, going back to its earliest origins, but things certainly seem to have stepped up in recent years. Fueled by the all-encompassing influence of the beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake, more rappers are finding opportunities to call out their musical enemies. Latto, however, wants no part in it.

The Atlanta-based rapper has been making waves in the scene since the release of her breakthrough single ‘Bitch from da Souf’ in 2019. In more recent years, however, fans have been captivated by the rapper’s suspected feud with the New York-based artist Ice Spice. Over the past two years, both the hip hop stars have thrown shade at each other on various occasions.

Most recently, the pair fired prosaic shots at each other during the 2024 BET Awards. Although this kind of playground insult exchange usually precedes a rap battle, Latto has now revealed that she has little to no interest in engaging in a battle with Ice Spice. Talking to Billboard, the rapper shared, “If I was to do [a battle], it would have to be with somebody I feel like Imma go tit for tat with.”

“I really don’t mean it as shade,” Latto clarified, before pondering, “Would she even want to do that? I feel like she’s doing her in her lane. It’s two different types of vibes. I don’t even think she gives me like, ‘Oh, she wants to engage in an actual rap beef.'” The Atlanta artist’s claims here are pretty odd, given the fact that Ice Spice has previously engaged in multiple beefs.

Latto also seems to be forgetting the fact that both she and Ice Spice have targeted each other in various tracks over the years. Last year, Latto released ‘Fine As Can Be’, which took some not-so-subtle jabs at Ice Spice. The Bronx-based rapper has also taken shots at Latto, particularly on the track ‘Think U the Shit (Fart)’.

“Everybody gon’ take their lil jabs in the music,” Latto continued, “and it’s not even that serious to me. I feel like you should do that. Continue to! But as far as actual whole diss records to each other, I don’t think she would even want to do that. I feel like…would it even make sense? It wouldn’t.”

Whether or not Latto sticks to her word, or continues to take jabs at Ice Spice both in her music and on social media, remains to be seen. At the moment, however, it seems as though she is not prepared to formally take Ice Spice on in a head-to-head battle.
