Killer Mike disses Travis Scott over Grammy losses
Killer Mike seems to be dissing Travis Scott on his new album, Songs for Sinners & Saints, which was released this week. On the closing track, ‘STILL TALK’N THAT SH*T’, he’s opening up old wounds to hit out at Scott who he beat to the win at the 2024 Grammys.
However, Killer Mike has always been more of an underground sensation. While he has a passionate, cultish fan base, he has always been more of a critically acclaimed artist than a commercial one, always more likely to win an award like a Grammy rather than topping the charts. On the flip side, Scott has proved to be an incredibly successful mainstream artist who has broken through into major commercial and chart success.
But when Killer Mike beat Scott in the category of Best Rap Album, fans weren’t happy. His album, Michael, took the trophy, while Scott’s UTOPIA missed out. In response, fans thought Mike had robbed Scott of the chance to win his first Grammy, something which clearly annoyed the winner.
“You gon respect me like a motherf*ckin’ Grammy winner,” he raps. “Like I cooked your favorite rapper like a Granny dinner.” As he mentions the Grammys, it’s clear that Mike is trying to bring up old battles, reminding Scott of his position and warning his fans to not disrespect his accolades and accomplishments.
It’s not that Scott has had no critical praise. Over the course of his career, he’s been nominated for ten Grammys but has never won one. He’s previously admitted his annoyance over this as he said, “You play football to win a Super Bowl, you play basketball to win championships.” He continued, “It’s what that Grammy used to mean is the idea I hold on to. I love to create music.”
However, when his fans hit out at Killer Mike, blaming him for Scott missing out on the gold statue once again, the rapper made it clear that they wouldn’t take the disrespect. As a follow-up to his 2023 track, ‘TALK’N THAT SHIT!’, which sat on the award-winning album, he’s bringing up only wounds not only in his direct call out but in the indirect dig of reminding Scott of the award-winning album once again.
“I finally get it, all my haters, they was just jealous,” Mike raps as a further blow to Scott, brushing off all his fans upset over the Grammys as nothing but petty jealousy.
