Kid Cudi announces new album ‘Free’ inspired by ‘The Truman Show’

Kid Cudi has announced his new album, Free. His 11th studio effort will be released on August 22nd, following last year’s Insano (Nitro Mega).

The Cleveland rapper took to Instagram on July 9th to announce details for the project and share the cover art, inspired by Jim Carrey’s 1998 movie The Truman Show.

“THE COVER ART FOR MY NEW ALBUM ‘FREE’, RELEASING AUG 22nd,” he wrote. “Shot by the always amazing @normanjeanroy. I wanted something that really expressed freedom, so the concept of me leaping into the clouds made so much sense. Inspired by The Truman Show.”

He added, “I cant WAIT for u guys to hear this album and really see the album art brought to life. You’re in for a beautiful ride. Promise. Its all happening baby.”

Cudi’s new single, ‘Grave’, will be released on July 11th, and the album pre-order will also be available. His last release, ‘Neverland’, dropped in May on Republic Records. It coincided with a short film, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in June.

In March, Cudi revealed that his new album was dedicated to his fiancée, stating every song was him confessing his love.

“It felt like one of the easiest albums I’ve ever done because I’m in this place in my life where I’m happier than I’ve ever been, and the emotions were real,” he told Hube Magazine. “I had a lot of things to say, a lot of things in my heart.”

His previous album, Insano (Nitro Mega), was released in February 2024. It included features from Pusha T, Wiz Khalifa, Lil Yachty, Chip Tha Ripper, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony’s Layzie Bone and Krayzie Bone, and Steve Aoki.
