Kendrick Lamar drops unreleased song ‘Money Without Me’

Kendrick Lamar only released his GNX album last month, but he’s already back with new music for fans. The Compton rapper took to YouTube on December 18th to share an unreleased track called ‘Money Without Me’ without any warning.

The song reportedly dates back to 2011 around the time of his Section.80 album, and was first leaked onto the internet in 2022. Now, the record has received an official release, complete with single artwork from his GNX era.

He raps on the song, “Now, I was raised on the wild side, ever since a child/ I ‘member food stamps when mama said it’s chow time/ Papa had the green Seville with the Alpine/ Woofer in the back, Doggystyle, track number 9/ Lifestyles of a lil’ nappy head/ Guns in the closet, bills in the bed/ Watchin’ Jay-Z on BET countin’ bread/ Pointed at him then I said.”

Section.80, released through Top Dawg Entertainment on July 2nd, 2011, served as K.Dot’s debut album with features from ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, BJ the Chicago Kid and others. Frequent collaborators like Sounwave and Terrace Martin helped produce the album, along with J Cole.

Fans took to the comments to show their excitement about Kendrick dropping ‘Money Without Me’. One person wrote, “Kendrick’s UNRELEASED tracks clear 99/100 of other rappers songs. It’s crazy,” while another added, “I’m finna talk about 2024 Kendrick to my kids like he’s ’95 Tupac.”

Another fan provided some context about the song, writing, “For all the newer people this is an older track from Section.80 days.”

Lamar might not be finished with new material. Earlier this month, TDE rapper Ab-Soul and DJ Hed claimed that he “ain’t done” yet regarding new music. “You see what Dot doing,” Hed said, before Soulo added, “Unc, come on, man.” The DJ continued, “Dot going crazy right now. We ain’t gonna give them too much. I will say this: the homie ain’t done and this what n*ggas is on right now, so you could take that however you want.”

‘TV Off’ collaborator Lefty Gunplay also claimed that Kendrick was dropping a deluxe version of GNX. “He has some stuff,” he said. “We did two, three songs. He has some stuff in the chamber. He told me that we’re going to work again, for sure. I know he’s got a deluxe version coming out. He’s very secretive.”
