Kendrick Lamar releasing deluxe version of ‘GNX’ album, says collaborator

Kendrick Lamar is plotting to drop a deluxe version of his new album GNX, which was originally released on November 22nd.

‘TV Off’ collaborator Lefty Gunplay announced the news during a recent interview, giving fans another reason to be excited after an already busy year for K.Dot.

The West Coast rapper appeared on the latest episode of the Bootleg Kev Podcast, where he revealed that he had recorded multiple tracks with Kendrick Lamar. Gunplay noted Kendrick’s secretiveness, but that didn’t stop him from dropping the bombshell.

“He has some stuff,” he said. “We did two, three songs. He has some stuff in the chamber. He told me that we’re going to work again, for sure. I know he’s got a deluxe version coming out. He’s very secretive.”

During his time working with Kendrick, Lefty Gunplay was asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement in order to keep everything about GNX out of the public eye.

“Everybody thought that I was playing — I wasn’t, though, as much as I wanted to tell everybody,” he said. “I almost blew it. ‘Cause we signed NDAs and I couldn’t wait to tell everybody. We had to sign NDAs and they were like, ‘You’re going [in the studio] with Kendrick.’”

He continued, “And it didn’t hit me ’til he walked in there and gave me a hug. He’s been locked in with me since April and he said that I’m the missing piece that the West Coast needed.”

Billboard reports that ‘Squabble Up’ is leading the way from the album and has the potential to debut at number one on the Hot 100. However, ‘TV Off’ is also in the running thanks to the viral “mustard” chant, which references the song’s producer, DJ Mustard. The track recently surpassed ‘Squabble Up’ on Apple Music, so it has the potential to be a chart-topper.

Lefty Gunplay appears on the outro for ‘TV Off’, rapping, “Shit gets crazy, scary, spooky, hilarious,” and is now credited as a feature across streaming platforms. The song is co-produced by Mustard, Sounwave, Jack Antonoff, Kamasi Washington and Sean Momberger, with Kendrick Lamar offering a critique on society.
