Kay Flock found guilty of attempted murder, racketeering and firearm charges

New York City-based Bronx rapper Kay Flock has been found guilty of the RICO charges against him as part of a gang called Sev Side/DOA. On March 20th, the 21-year-old drill artist (real name Kevin Perez) saw a jury return “mostly—but not all—guilty verdicts” on the second day of deliberations.

Flock was found guilty of racketeering conspiracy, use of a firearm resulting in death, attempted murder and assault with a dangerous weapon in aid of racketeering and use of a firearm for attempted murder and assault with a dangerous weapon.

However, he was acquitted on the charge of murder in aid of racketeering, according to Inner City Press. His sentencing is scheduled for July 16th, which could result in life in prison.

In a statement from the US Attorney’s Office, Southern District of New York, attorney Matthew Podolsky said, “Kevin Perez, a/k/a ‘Kay Flock’, was the leader of a neighbourhood street gang known as Sev Side / DOA, and with that gang, he committed a series of gang-motivated shootings.”

Continuing, “Perez, a drill rapper, instilled fear across the community with his violent actions, and then threatened rivals, bragged about shootings, and taunted victims in his rap lyrics. But as a unanimous jury has now found, Perez can no longer hide behind his music, and instead will be held to account for his violent crimes.”

He added, “Thanks to the hard work of the career prosecutors of this Office and our law enforcement partners, the cycle of violence that Perez engaged in is over. This Office remains resolute in its commitment to prosecuting gang members who sow fear and spread violence on our city streets.”

Flock has over 2million monthly listeners on Spotify. He released his debut mixtape, The D.O.A. Tape, in 2021 through Capitol Records. His biggest song, ‘PSA’, has over 194m streams, having collaborated with the likes of Cardi B, Gucci Mane, Lil Tjay, Fivio Foreign and G Herbo.

With almost 800,000 Instagram followers, Flock’s highest-charting single, ‘Shake It‘, featuring Cardi, peaked at number 51 on the Billboard Hot 100. It samples Akon’s 2005 hit, ‘Belly Dancer (Bananza)’.
