Kanye West praises Drake’s “great” partnership with 21 Savage
In a strange turn of events, Chicago rapper Kanye West recently praised Toronto artist Drake for his fantastic relationship with Her Loss collaborator 21 Savage and compared it to his own relationship with Ty Dolla $ign.
During a conversation with Hypebeast magazine, West spoke about his friendship with Ty Dolla $ign (real name Tyrone Griffin Jr), stating, “Man, me and Ty have been doing music for so long. It makes me think of 21 Savage and Drake, who are just such a great combination.”
He continued, “What people see now, they probably didn’t realize at first.” Kanye then highlighted how he and Griffin have collaborated numerous times, citing other tracks, explaining, “It’s like, ‘Oh, Ty wrote on ‘FourFiveSeconds,’ Ty wrote on ‘Only One’ and ‘Real Friends’ and ‘Fade.’ He wrote on records I did with Paul McCartney!”
Speaking about how the public has now noticed that he and Griffin make high-quality music when they collaborate, West continued, “And now people see these whole albums and are like, ‘Oh wow, they really make good music together, like the best music.'”
West’s comments come as a surprise to many as he recently dissed Drake on a remix of Future and Metro Boomin’s ‘Like That,’ and even expressed how happy he was at the “elimination of Drake.”
On his ‘Like That (remix)’ Kanye rhymed, “Y’all so outta sight, outta mind/ I can’t even think of a Drake line/ Play J. Cole, get the pussy dry.” Giving fans a peek into the workings of the music industry, in an interview with Justin Laboy, West called Drake a pawn for Universal Music Group and insisted his “raps mean nothing.”
Furthermore, he claimed that, alongside Lucian Grange, Drake inflates his sales, suppresses the numbers of his competition and has put the entire industry in a chokehold.
