Kanye West claims Kendrick Lamar ‘killed’ Drake: “He took down my nemesis”

Kanye West has credited Kendrick Lamar for “killing” Drake in their beef last year. During a viewing party for his new interview with Justin LaBoy on The Download podcast, he claimed K.Dot was the rapper who came out on top during their feud.

Ye has had his issues with Drake but also been full of praise for the Toronto rapper, giving him his flowers as a musician. During the discussion, Kanye joked that Kendrick assisted in taking down his rival.

“He took down my nemesis for me, or at least took him down for a little bit,” he said on the screen. “You know in superhero films, maybe one of the characters, Wolverine or something, just goes away for a couple films.”

He went on credit Drake for making one of the best songs of all time, saying, “Damn man, it was really challenging for me to make ‘Father Stretch My Hands‘ and different things, and then you got ‘Work’, a top-five song ever created in life. I’m like, still doing the drums, bringing Metro on.”

When LaBoy asked Kanye if Kendrick “killed Drake” and if he was “dead,” Ye responded, “Yeah, for now. You can’t ever count out Steph Curry. That man might get 200 points in one song or something.”

Kanye continued to commend Drizzy for his contribution to hip-hop: “Drake added something to the algorithm, to our frequency,” he said. “He advanced it. Future advanced it, and now Kendrick is advancing the frequency.”

He also warned rappers to increase their skill level after what Kendrick has displayed over the past year. “When Twista came out, there were rappers that didn’t learn, but then Jay-Z learned,” he said. “If you don’t really learn as just a professional rapper, as a sport, what Kendrick is doing, you might be wiped. You might be wiped out.”

Ye’s comments came shortly after Kendrick won five Grammys for his Drake diss track ‘Not Like Us’. The song swept up the awards show in the ‘Record of the Year’, ‘Song of the Year’, ‘Best Rap Song’, ‘Best Rap Performance’ and ‘Best Music Video’ categories.
