Kanye West disses Kendrick Lamar: “I don’t like his music”
Kanye West has called out Kendrick Lamar following his appearances on Playboi Carti’s new album. Ye took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his thoughts on Music, which was released on March 14th.
The Chicago rapper praised the songs ‘Crank’ and ‘I Seeeeee You Baby Boi’ with screenshots before turning his attention to Kendrick. K. Dot appears on three songs, ‘Good Credit’, ‘Backd00r’, and ‘Mojo Jojo’, but Kanye wasn’t impressed with his contributions.
“I DONT LIKE KENDRICK LAMARS MUSIC,” he wrote. “HE RAPS VERY GOOD BUT I DIDNT NEED TO HEAR HIM ON CARTI ALBUM.”
Ye then reposted replies from some of his fans, who said, “YOURE THE REALEST N*GGA ON EARTH. ON MY SOUL. I BEEN SAYING THIS SHIT BRO,” and, “FIRST GOOD TAKE IN A MIN LMAOO.”
Following the release of Music, rumours circulated that Kanye produced ‘Good Credit’, but a representative for Carti has since told Variety that he didn’t produce or contribute to the song.
Kanye makes his comments despite praising Kendrick for his Super Bowl halftime show in February, claiming it was the best performance on that stage since the early 1990s.
“I really loved the show,” he said. “It was my favourite halftime show since the Michael Jackson era, which I kinda just barely remember, I just seen clips of it. It was super simple, the flag was fresh. When they did [‘HUMBLE’], the way that people’s heads were moving, I was shook. This is super fresh. The man’s voice control, all that.”
He added, “And you know, of course, they build up the controversy whether he’s gonna do [‘Not Like Us‘]. Then, at the end, I saw people saying, ‘This is the worst halftime show.’ And I’m just like, ‘Everybody I talked to in real life said this is the best halftime show.’”
The two artists previously collaborated in 2016 on ‘No More Parties in LA’, the Madlib-produced track from The Life of Pablo. Around that time, Ye claimed he had 40 unreleased songs with Kendrick.
