Kendrick Lamar surprises fans with multiple features on new Playboi Carti album

Playboi Carti has released his new album, Music, with multiple appearances from Kendrick Lamar. The project dropped on March 14th, with K. Dot featuring on several songs, including ‘Good Credit’, ‘Backd00r’, and ‘Mojo Jojo’.

The Atlanta rapper shared the tracklist for the album hours before its release, revealing Kendrick as a feature on ‘Good Credit’. On the song, he name-drops A$AP Relli and NBA player Luka Dončić, who recently joined the Los Angeles Lakers.

He raps in his verse, “The numbers says nothing, the money is nothing, I really been held my promise/ Say Kenny been heavy out West and I carry the weight, n*gga, I’m Luka Dončić/ Conspiracy theories is given, but I must admit it, you got the wrong person/ They bundling main Chicago slang, which one of you n*ggas a merchant?”

The other two songs contain secret appearances from Kendrick. On ‘Backd00r’, Kendrick raps, “I’ma make it back it all and probably spend it all on you/ Come through from the back so don’t nobody talk/ I put them VVs on your decolleté, girl you feel nauseous/ Bitches best stay in their place, move around with caution.”

Kendrick also provides hidden vocals on ‘Mojo Jojo’. In the intro, he says, “Ay, Carti, I need that Back to the Future Carti/ I need that 4am Carti/ I need that beep, beep, beep, extraterrestrial Carti, you know/ Just like that Carti, you know.”

Music comprises 30 tracks with additional features from Travis Scott, The Weeknd, Skepta, Future, Lil Uzi Vert, Ty Dolla $ign and Young Thug. It serves as the long-awaited follow-up to Carti’s Whole Lotta Red album, which was released in 2020.

Producer Cardo claimed he and Carti developed a new subgenre called “burnt music” during an interview with Billboard in September. “We’ll be in the studio, like, ‘This music is burnt,’” he said. He also cited Three 6 Mafia’s DJ Paul and Juicy J, DJ Toomp, The Legendary Traxster and Halloween‘s John Carpenter as influences.
