Jay-Z’s New York show delayed for over four hours
One of the Jay-Z concerts at Yankee Stadium was delayed four hours over the weekend.
Hov performed three shows at the New York stadium, but the third and final show on July 12th didn’t quite go to plan.
According to TMZ, the show was scheduled to begin at around 8pm, but he still hadn’t hit the stage at midnight.
Fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to speak about the delay, citing people allegedly rushing the gates and others passing out. One person wrote, “Jay-Z concert going into extra innings with Night 3, the finale in the Bronx. It’s almost 11 p.m., and he still hasn’t come on stage.”
They continued, “Apparently, people tried to rush the gates outside, and they’ve officially closed the stadium, not letting anyone else in. No clue when this show is going to start. We’ve been waiting more than three hours.”
Another person wrote, “People are throwing up, fainting and asking for medics at the the Jay Z show. This is insane, inhuman and very dangerous. Police arent doing anything @Yankees aren’t doing anything.”
The Setlist page claims the show started at 12:20am, with the concert coming to an end at 2:55am. Performing songs across his entire catalogue, he brought out the likes of Teyana Taylor, Jermaine Dupri, Jeezy, Usher, The-Dream, Rihanna, Swizz Beatz, Pharrell, Fat Joe, and Jadakiss.
Explaining the delay, Hov told fans, “It was like 10,000 people outside, and we closed all the doors, and somebody rushed the door. They closed the door for you guys’ safety and everyone’s safety outside. There’s 10,000 people outside; I don’t want to start the music and people get trampled. I’m really sorry for the inconvenience, but I had to make sure everyone was OK. I appreciate your patience.”
The first of the three Yankee Stadium shows took place on July 10th, celebrating 30 years since Reasonable Doubt was released. He brought out Beyoncé, Nas, Blue Ivy Carter, Memphis Bleek, Jaz-O, and Alicia Keys.
The second show on July 11th marked 25 years of The Blueprint, where he brought out Slick Rick, Eminem, and Pharrell.
