J Cole confirms Dreamville Festival will end in 2025
J Cole has announced that next year’s Dreamville Festival will be the last. The festival, which will take place on April 5th and 6th, 2025, will bring an end to the event, which has been an annual festival since 2018 and has not only been a staple in hip-hop culture but has also helped the local economy of North Carolina, where it is held.
That said, over the years, it has suffered many setbacks. From Hurricane Florence to the Covid-19 pandemic, it has been challenging for Cole to get it off the ground in the same way Tyler The Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw did.
The festival was not merely designed to gather hip-hop superstars in one place but also to allow J Cole to showcase what he believed to be exceptional up-and-coming talent from across the US. Although it has been shown to boost the city’s local economy, Cole and the festival’s co-founder Ibrahim Hamad believe it has come to a natural end.
In a bittersweet social media post, Hamad wrote on X, “Thank You, North Carolina. Thank you to everyone who’s travelled from all over the last 4 years to enjoy our little family reunion. This festival is something a lot of people have been working very hard to bring you and it’s honestly been a dream come true seeing the impact.”
The emcee’s Dreamville team also confirmed the festival’s end by sharing an Instagram video showing a birdseye drone shot of the event’s sheer size. The caption read: “From the moment the idea of a festival took shape, we couldn’t help but wonder: were we in over our heads? Would people come to our home in Raleigh? What would that even look like?”
It continued: “We took a leap of faith—breaking ground, making announcements, and even navigating reschedules due to the elements and a world that seemed to be falling apart. Through every challenge and milestone, our community stood by us.”
Still, the post wasn’t all gloom as they believe they succeeded by bringing people together. Expressing this, the Dreamville team added: “Watching people from all over the world and all walks of life gather here each year has been one of the most fulfilling chapters of our journey. Whether it’s the day-one fans or the newcomers, each reunion has been unforgettable. As we approach our 5th and final year, we want to invite our alumni and new pledges to come together one last time—to break bread, share fellowship, and celebrate this thing of ours.”
Although hip-hop fans will miss Dreamville festival, it is undeniable that the many challenges it has faced over the years and will likely face in the future with North Carolina’s exposure to hurricanes means logistically it was always going to be harder to run than other hip-hop festivals such as Astroworld.
