Ice Spice’s career has been a whirlwind so far. Since the release of her viral TikTok hit ‘Much (Feelin’ U), the Bronx emcee (real name Gaston Isis) has been on an upward trajectory, headlining festivals such as Rolling Loud and touring the world. She has even been featured on tracks with the likes of Nicki Minaj and been in contact with Drake.
Since then, Gaston has released performed at Drake’s OVO Fest and, released singles such as ‘Bikini Bottom’ and ‘In Ha Mood’. Earlier this year, her EP, Like..?, debuted at 37 on the Billboard 200 and in June released the deluxe edition of her Like..? EP which featured an additional four new tracks.
Ice Spice has a range of influences and has spoken in great depth about some of her idols. In an interview with ELLE, Gaston revealed her influences and even her three favourite albums, unveiling that she loves the 2012 Azealia Banks mixtape Fantasea Nicki Minaj’s 2014 project The Pinkprint and Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly.
That said, in an interview with Jamila Mustafa for MTV Fresh Out, Gaston spoke about collaborating with PinkPantheress on ‘Boy’s A Liar Pt. 2,’ modelling for Beyonce’s Ivy Park, and even revealed her favourite artist.
Responding to the question of who her favourite artist is, Gaston responded, “Sheesh y’all know it’s Nicki Minaj and like all the greats I’m really into Doja Cat right now. I’m saying like Beyoncé, Rihanna, all the Queens.”
Earlier this year, Ice Spice released a new track, ‘Barbie World’, for the soundtrack of the soundtrack of Greta Gerwig’s new Barbie movie alongside her hero Nicki Minaj which saw Minaj and Ice Spice rap over a drill remix of Aqua’s 1997 hit ‘Barbie Girl.’
Gaston is yet to collaborate with Beyoncé or Rihanna. However, it is highly likely that we will see a collaboration featuring Ice SPice and Doja Cat considering they are two of the hottest females in pop culture at the moment. You can watch Ice Spice name her favourite artist below.
