Eminem releases official track listing for new album, ‘The Death of Slim Shady’
Hip-hop fans all over the world are waiting in anticipation for the arrival of Eminem’s new album, The Death of Slim Shady. Set to be released on July 12th, the legendary rapper has decided to release a track list that details all of the song titles that will make up the album. On there are the leading singles ‘Houdini’ and ‘Tobey’. However, the biggest source of excitement is the sheer length of the project.
It has been confirmed that The Death of Slim Shady will be a whopping 19 tracks long. This shows how Eminem refuses to skip out on content when it comes to releasing new music. The new album will be one of the Detroit rapper’s longest projects to date, totalling more than recent previous albums like Kamikaze and Recovery.
Eminem has clearly decided on a theme for this album and stuck to it. He is revisiting some of his old work and bringing back his former alter-ego, Slim Shady, for one last hurrah. It is clear that some of the songs on the LP are direct sequels to old Eminem songs, such as ‘Guilty Conscience 2’, which is a direct homage to Eminem’s 1999 song with Dr Dre. Given how heavily Dr Dre has been involved in this new project, it is likely that fans can expect to hear a couple of verses from him.
There is also a lot of demonic imagery littered throughout the tracklist. Songs such as ‘Lucifer’ and ‘Antichrist’ certainly play into the hellish imagery represented by the clips of a woman giving birth to a demonic infant that Eminem showed in the music video for ‘Houdini’ and also in a recent trailer for the album.
Other titles give us a glimpse into the frantic energy surrounding the record. Eminem is known for having a scattered and speedy flow, so tracks such as ‘Fuel’ and ‘Road Rage’ fit into that image incredibly well. It’s exciting to think about how Eminem will use these themes to complement his rapping.
It’s worth noting that the only features that appear on the track list are from Big Sean and BabyTron on the already-released ‘Tobey’. That being said, it’s unlikely these will be the album’s only features. A leaked track list was released earlier in the week and included features from J Cole, Black Thought, and Billie Eilish. Whether all of these artists will appear on the album remains to be seen, but given the length of this project, it would be surprising if Eminem restricted himself to just two features.
Eminem’s new album, The Death of Slim Shady, arrives on July 12th.
