Eminem shares new single ‘Houdini’
Earlier this year, Eminem revealed that he will release a new project, The Death Of Slim Shady LP, to finally retire his rowdy, foul-mouthed long-running alter-ego. The first single released is ‘Houdini’, and following a recent trailer starring David Blaine, Eminem has now shared the song with fans.
This latest single hears the Detroit star rhyme, “Little baby devil with the forked tongue and it’s stickin’ out”, adding, “Still a white jerk pullin’ up in a Chrysler to the cypher with the Vics, Percs and a Bud Light shirt.”
On the song, Eminem (real name Marshall Mathers) even gives a shout-out to Houston female emcee Megan Thee Stallion as he raps, “If I was to ask for Megan Thee Stallion if she would collab with me / Would I really have a shot at a feat? / I don’t know, but I’m glad to be, back like abra-abracadabra.”
Although most fans first heard about the upcoming LP via social media, Eminem first announced the project during an appearance at the 2024 NFL Draft in his hometown of Detroit.
The album is Mathers’ first release since his 2020 project, Music To Be Murdered By. Slim Shady was first introduced to the public in 1998 when Eminem released his 1997 EP, the Slim Shady EP.
In a faux obituary about the alter-ego published in the Detroit Free Press, Mathers wrote, “Fans ‘will never forget’ controversial rapper.” The obituary boasted the title ‘Slim Shady Made Lasting Impressions’.
The Detroit Free Press piece eulogised, “A product of Detroit who began his career there as a rogue splinter in the flourishing underground rap scene of the mid to late 1990s, Shady first became a household name in 1999 with the debut of his playfully deranged single ‘My Name Is,’ which — along with its uniquely eye-catching video — exposed the young artist and his lyrics to a wider audience.”
It concluded, “Ultimately, the very things that seemed to be the tools he used became calling cards that defined an existence that could only come to a sudden and horrific end.”
As of yet, there is no official release date for The Death Of Slim Shady LP, but the record is expected to arrive at some point this summer. For now, ‘Houdini’ provides a taster of what he’s plotting to serve on the forthcoming album.
