Eminem labels Redman one of his “favourite rappers”
Eminem is one of the greatest lyricists ever to touch a mic and concerning hip-hop, he is widely considered one of the top five artists ever to grace the genre. However, understandably, the man himself respects other artists and has his own favourites, one of which he recently revealed as Redman.
Following the release of his new album, Muddy Waters 2, the Detroit legend gave props to New Jersey’s Redman. Beginning his career as a DJ for Lords Of The Underground, Redman was discovered by Erick Sermon of EPMD and debuted on the duo’s third album, Business As Usual. Still, he has been an East Coast legend ever since.
That said, Em took to X (formerly Twitter) recently to congratulate his idol, writing, “One of my all time favourite rappers [goat emojis] … man I been waiting for this @therealredman #muddywaters.” While Redman has yet to respond to the high praise, he did repost Em’s tweet.
This latest project, which boasts features from the likes of Method Man, Snoop Dogg, KRS-One, Faith Evans, Sheek Louch and Kid Capri, is a follow-up to Redman’s 1996 classic album, Muddy Waters. The project, which hit streaming services on December 24th, is packed full of songs and contains a mammoth 32 tracks.
On Eminem’s 2002 single ‘Til’ I Collapse’ he rapped about his favourite artists, rhyming, “I got a list, here’s the order of my list that it’s in / It goes: Reggie, Jay-Z, 2Pac and Biggie / André from Outkast, Jada, Kurupt, Nas, and then me.”
Furthermore, last year, Eminem was photographed wearing a T-shirt with the lyrics from the 2002 track, which prompted a response from Redman, who wrote on Instagram, “My Young Bro @eminem stay Repping and got his IT GOES REGGIE TEE!” he wrote on Instagram. “ONLY at www.Richmondhood.com. @richmondhoodco. If it ain’t got the Yellow Tag, it’s a FAKE !! Fuck with the ORIGINALS.”
“I was cleaning out my closet, pun intended, and ran across this old picture. I was like, ‘What the fuck is? Oh shit.’ I realized, the first time I had ever went to New York, we went to Jersey [and] me and Bizarre went to record with the Outsidaz.”
He continued, “And somehow, I can’t remember who we was in the car with, but I know Pace [Won] was with us and we actually ended up stopping by your house. So I’m like, ‘Oh shit. That’s the picture I took out the back window of your house on some fan shit.’ It was like, ‘Holy shit, that’s Redman’s house!’”
Redman replied, “You’re one of my favourite artists, too. Keep doing what you’re doing and you’ve got my support over here, brother.” The mutual respect the two artists have for one another is second to none and an album from Redman this year was definitely not what anybody expected.
