Eminem announces the release of his new single ‘Houdini’
Encore legend Eminem has revealed that he will be releasing a new track entitled ‘Houdini’ on May 31st as one of the first singles of his upcoming project, The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce).
Earlier this year, Em (real name Marshall Mathers) announced he would release a new album this year. The Detroit musician first introduced the world to Slim Shady in 1997 with the release of The Slim Shady EP. However, it appears the rapper is now putting an end to his iconic alter-ego.
The rapper took to Twitter/X on April 26th to announce the release of the project, writing, “THE DEATH OF SLIM SHADY (COUP DE GRÂCE). Summer 2024.” He also uploaded a trailer to accompany the post.
The trailer saw a mock news reporter reporting on the murder of Slim Shady. During the clip, the reporter states, “Through his complex and oft-criticized, tongue-twisting rhymes, the blonde anti-hero known as Slim Shady has had no shortage of enemies.”
The trailer featured 50 Cent, who called the alter-ego “a psychopath” and someone who “is not a friend.” The 8 Mile artist is renowned for using his alter-ego to say some disturbing, controversial things.
This latest single, ‘Houdini’, was premiered on Instagram, where he posted a clip on Facetime with magician David Blaine where he asked, “I was wondering, how far can we go with this magic? Like, can we do like a stunt or something?”
Blaine then proceeds to drink a glass of wine and bite the rim of the glass. At the end of their conversation, Mathers stated, “Well, for my last trick, I’m going to make my career disappear.”
Mathers has been relatively tight-lipped about the details of his upcoming body of work. However, fans were first made aware of the project when Em’s mentor, Dr Dre, went on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and revealed that Eminem was working on a new album.
