Drake willing to finance Young Thug’s RICO case

As an artist, Young Thug might be one of the most loved rappers in the game. His hits feature some of the biggest artists in hip-hop, and his unique voice means that in a matter of years, he has cemented himself as one of the most notable rappers ever. However, his career has been slowed down a great deal recently, though, as in 2022, he was slapped with a RICO charge.

RICO stands for Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organisations Act. Young Thug was charged in 2022 and has been on trial ever since. If found guilty, he could be looking at jail time between five and 20 years.

Given his standing in the game, a lot of rappers have come forward to show support for Thugger. Drake has made his voice particularly known, as he confirmed in a recent Instagram post that he would help finance Young Thug’s ongoing case.

Alongside a selfie with the rapper, Drake posted on October 10th, showing his support of Thugger. In a cryptic caption, the Toronto rapper wrote, “I ain’t talking to talk man […] I really put [bread emoji] and the [case emoji] 3 Jeff.” While Drake may not mention Young Thug specifically, the emojis paired with the name “Jeff,” which is Thug’s real name, makes the message clear.

Drake didn’t specify how much he is spending on the ongoing case, but his support of the rapper speaks volumes. Thug isn’t the only rapper Drake has helped beat charges, either, as Top5, a Toronto artist, was released from prison recently and said he owed his thanks to Drake. “Shoutout big bro @champagnepapi for the Lawyer Fees & Gary Grill for being the best lawyer in Toronto,” he wrote on social media.

It appears that Drake has been closely monitoring the ongoing Young Thug case. He was angry to learn that a phone call between Thugger and his girlfriend, Mariah the Scientist, was leaked earlier in January. Drake headed to DJ Akademiks’ livestream to make his voice heard, highlighting the negligence on display.

“Shit is disgraceful,” he wrote in a comment, “Gotta be some form of jail misconduct… You gonna drag this talented man then not be able to control your employees using his personal business for their own gain?”

Drake and Thugger have worked together multiple times, trading verses on each other’s songs. Drake also rapped about Young Thug in the recent song ‘It’s Up’, where he made it clear he was concerned about the rapper’s safety. “I can’t sleep at night with Thug at Cobb County Corrections,” he said, “I think he did enough reflecting; I think my brother learned his lesson.”
