Drake pays tribute to Memphis producer Tay Keith following his death
Drake has paid tribute to his longtime collaborator, Tay Keith, following his death.
The Memphis producer passed away in Nashville on June 19th at the age of 29, having been found dead in his apartment.
Shortly after his death, Drizzy took to Instagram to honour Keith as a person and for his contribution to music.
“Endless and eternal gratitude for your spirit and your contributions to this thing that we all love so much,” he wrote. “You will be deeply missed.”
Drizzy and Keith collaborated on many songs, including ‘Nonstop,’ ‘Look Alive’, ‘Jimmy Cooks,’ ‘Rich Flex’, and ‘First Person Shooter’.
‘Nonstop’ appeared on Drake’s Scorpion album in 2018 and reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100.
Explaining how he met Drake, Keith once told The Fader, “He hit me up on Instagram. He was just congratulating me and [BlocBoy JB] for what we was doing and just showing us respect for the whole wave we had. He told me to send him something and I sent him a pack of beats that had ‘Look Alive’ in it.”
He continued, “He wrapped on ‘Look Alive’, like 24 hours, sent it back, sent it to Bloc, he sent it back. Then we shot the video like two or three days later. Everything was done in one week – that quick.”
Keith’s family confirmed his death in a statement, acknowledging his qualities as both a family member and musician.
“It’s with profound sadness that we confirm the passing of BryTavious ‘Tay Keith’ Chambers,” they wrote. “BryTavious was a visionary producer, songwriter, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and cultural force whose work helped define the sound of a generation. From Memphis to the global stage, he shaped countless hit records and left a lasting mark on music and culture.”
