Drake loses $1.5 million bet on World Cup final
Drake lost $1.5 million on the World Cup final over the weekend.
Spain beat Argentina 1-0 in extra time to become world champions at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on July 19th.
In the days leading up to the event, Drake revealed that he had bet millions on Argentina to take home the trophy.
“What’s that saying???” he wrote in an Instagram caption alongside a screenshot of his bet. “Better luck next time…say less @stake.”
If his $1.5 million bet had come in, he would have won $5.1 million (£3.8 million). Fans took to the comments of his post to react to the loss, with one person writing, “The drake curse is still very much alive and well.”
Others said, “Spain gotta say thank you for this,” and “Whatever drake bets … just bet the opposite.”
The losing bet comes shortly after Drake bet $1 million on Conor McGregor to beat Max Holloway in his UFC return, which also lost. “THE MAC IS BACK?!?!??” he wrote. “The proper twelve drinking, tailored suit wearing, Lambo Yacht riding man with the Dubai tan that once had both belts in both hands…Say less @stake.”
Drake placed the bets through Stake, the online casino he reportedly signed a $100 million a year endorsement deal with.
Drizzy addressed the “Drake curse” during an interview last year. “The Drake Curse is funny to me, honestly,” he said. “First of all, the Raptors won a championship, so nobody could ever talk to me about the Drake Curse.”
He continued, “The Toronto Raptors are NBA Champions. If there was a Drake Curse, Kawhi [Leonard] would’ve never hit that shot, we would’ve never beat the Warriors. There is no Drake curse, but it’s funny, though.”
