Drake breaks his gambling curse with $250,000 bet on Australian Open winner

Drake has recently broken his gambling curse thanks to putting a $250,000 bet on the Australian Open final between Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev which came out on top.

As a result of putting his money on the winner, Drake’s winnings were staggering. Following his win, Sinner explained why he is the best player in the world. Sinner broke multiple records before winning his third major tournament. Following his victory over Zverev, Sinner calmly raised his hands before embracing Zverev at the net.

Following the success, Sinner told outlets, “It’s an incredible tournament for me. I hope I can keep it going.” The victory was great for Drake after he placed a quarter of a million on Sinner’s victory and was well paid out for the gamble.

The actual sum Drizzy won was $345,000, meaning he earned a hefty $95,000 on a match that had a clear favourite. Drake is no stranger to placing bets on tennis matches. Last year, the Grammy award-winning rapper placed $210,000 on Taylor Fritz to defeat Sinner at the US Open. Still, he lost that bet.

Had the ‘God’s Plan’ lyricist won that bet, he would have pocketed an estimated $808,000. Tennis isn’t the only sport that Drake likes to put his money into. One loss that hit Drake particularly hard was when he placed a bet on a UFC fight, which saw him lose approximately $1.54 million.

Drizzy put a bet on a match between Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira with his money on the former. However, Adesanya was quickly knocked out. Betting on Adesanya lost Drake a further $500,200 and then another $433,000 when he backed him again in another fight. However, he did win back around $2.7 million after betting on Adesanya at UFC 287.

Before winning his bet, Drizzy posted a picture online with the caption, “About to have Australia Open for the first time since 2017, who’s linking up?” The 38-year-old is clearly satisfied with his winnings and will now know who to select next when it’s a match involving Sinner.

Although he’s won a lot of money by betting, Drake could lose part of his fortune if he fails to convince a judge that Universal Music Group (UMG) defamed him. The emcee is still embroiled in a lawsuit against his label following the release of ‘Not Like Us’ last year, which he has claimed was part of ” a campaign” that “falsely accused him of being a sex offender.”

Drake’s lawyers accuse UMG of having “executed a plan” to make the song “a viral mega-hit” and claim that they used Lamar’s false claims against Drake (the most decorated hip-hop star of all time) to “drive consumer hysteria and, of course, massive revenues.” Only time will tell whether he is victorious with that legal bet.
