DJ Quik breaks silence on son’s California murder sentence

DJ Quik has spoken out about his son’s murder sentence for the first time.

31-year-old David Marvin Blake Jr was sentenced to 15 years to life in California prison in February for his involvement in a 2022 murder.

He was found guilty of one count each of second-degree murder and shooting from a motor vehicle, along with true gun and great bodily injury claims, in December.

During a recent appearance on The Shade Room Live, legendary Compton rapper and record producer Quik broke his silence on his son’s situation.

Speaking on prison life, Quik stated that Blake Jr is “hanging in there” and “built for it,” adding, “He know he’s been put in a position to where he was scapegoat. If y’all would have been in the court with us while we were watching this trial play out … It was a lot of madness.”

He went on to say that Blake Jr is “holding his head up” and has “already accepted what happened” with the verdict.

“I’m a little bit too emotional to be in public because when people ask me about it in public, I don’t respond with [kindness],” Quik said. “And I’m not going to apologise for that. Stop asking me about my son in public.”

Quik went on to claim that his son was raised right and simply made a mistake. “Like everybody else, he made a mistake, just like the judge said,” he stated. “She said, ‘I commend you for going 27 years without having no police interaction.’ Period. He was raised right. He just made a mistake.”

33-year-old Julio Moises Cardoza Jr was fatally shot in Downey, California, in May 2022. Blake Jr was arrested the following day.
