DJ Quik’s son sentenced to years in prison for murder
The son of DJ Quik has been sentenced to a lengthy amount of time in prison for murder.
In December, 31-year-old David Marvin Blake Jr was found guilty of one count each of second-degree murder and shooting from a motor vehicle, along with true gun and great bodily injury claims.
According to Complex, a Los Angeles County judge sentenced him to 15 years to life on February 27th, while granting a request to dismiss gun enhancements to prevent an extra 25 years to life being added to his sentence.
33-year-old Julio Moises Cardoza Jr was killed in Downey, California, in 2022.
The judge said the case was “an absolute tragedy,” pointing out that Blake had “no prior record.” He told him that a “split-second decision that you made does not define your character or who you are” and that “at some point you will be paroled.”
Blake said he was “sorry for the role” in his death and that his “heart aches for the Cardozas.” He added that he was “truly in fear for my life” and “believed I was going to die” after being asked to drive his boss to the Cardoza family home, stating, “I’m no murderer … I’m no coward.”
Julio’s sister, Michelle Cardoza, said she was “not happy” with the sentence, adding, “But that’s what California does – gives murderers a chance. He got away with having a gun.”
The District Attorney’s Office alleged there was a fight between Julio and another man on the 13200 block of Carfax Avenue.
Blake was accused of being in a nearby car and shooting Julio before driving away. Julio later died in the hospital after suffering multiple gunshot wounds.
