DJ Quik’s son found guilty of murder

The son of DJ Quik has been convicted of murder. On December 4th, David Marvin Blake Jr was found guilty of killing a man in Downey, California, in 2022.

The legendary hip-hop producer’s son was convicted of one count each of second-degree murder and shooting from a motor vehicle. In addition, the jury found true gun and great bodily injury claims against him.

According to The Downey Patriot, Blake will be sentenced on February 6th and is facing up to 40 years in prison.

The 31-year-old was charged with the fatal shooting of 33-year-old Julio Moises Cardoza Jr, which took place on May 25th, 2022.

The District Attorney’s Office claimed there was a fight between Cardoza and another man on the 13200 block of Carfax Avenue near the San Gabriel River.

Blake was accused of being in a nearby car and shooting Cardoza, before driving away from the scene. Cardoza died in the hospital later that day after suffering multiple gunshot wounds. Blake was then arrested on May 23rd.

At the time of his arrest, Compton Mayor Emma Sharif said, “I send my thoughts and prayers to all the families involved in the incident as their lives have been forever changed.”

Before he was taken into custody, Blake worked as a council liaison to former Compton City councilman, Isaac Galvan.

His father, Quik, is known as a pillar of West Coast hip-hop, collaborating with the likes of Tupac Shakur, Snoop Dogg, Jay-Z, Kurupt, and many others.

His biggest solo song, ‘Tonite’, reached number 49 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1991. He’s released nine solo albums, including Quik Is the Name, Way 2 Fonky, and Safe + Sound.
