Chris Brown receives honorary PhD from Dallas university

Chris Brown has been awarded an honorary PhD from Harvest Christian University.

The 37-year-old singer took to social media over the weekend to share a photo of himself celebrating the degree while holding his certificate and wearing academic dress.

Brown received an honorary Doctor of Philosophy degree in Visual and Performing Arts from the university, which is a private, faith-based school in Dallas.

Alongside the photo posted to his Instagram page, he wrote in the caption, “I DID A THING!”

The degree comes shortly after Brown released his twelfth studio album, Brown, earlier this month. The project debuted at number seven on the Billboard 200, but it was slammed by critics.

Addressing the reception, he recently said, “Team Breezy, I know people want me to get on here and, you know, say some sad shit, but fuck that. We kickin’ they ass, goddammit. We ain’t lettin’ up. I’mma keep my foot on they neck and we ain’t stopping. You heard me?”

He added, “We doing this motherfucker. Tour, more shit to come. I’m not gon’ tell you what’s more to come, but it’s coming, at the end of the day.”

The project, released on May 8th, features the likes of NBA YoungBoy, GloRilla, Vybz Kartel, Sexyy Red, Bryson Tiller, and more.

In another post, he wrote, “I don’t give a fuck what these n*ggas is talkin’ about. I know exactly who my fans is and I know exactly who hearing this album. If you not my fan, I don’t want you to listen to my shit. Go listen to motherfuckin’ Zara Larsson or somebody. Fuck them.”

Brown served as the follow-up to his 11:11 album, which was released in 2023.
