Cardi B admits to falling asleep during assault trial
Cardi B was recently in court for an assault trial and appeared to fall asleep in footage that came out of the courtroom. Now, she’s set the record straight.
The Bronx rapper was accused of assaulting a security guard in a medical building in Beverly Hills in 2018.
In the end, Cardi won the trial, with the 12 jurors concluding that she didn’t swing or scratch the accuser’s face.
During her appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, she admitted that she did, in fact, fall asleep. She put it down to being in the midst of promoting her new album, Am I the Drama?.
“I’m not even going to lie, I was [falling asleep],” she said. “I had a long night! I’m in the middle of an album rollout. I was so sleepy, I was trying to fight it, but I just couldn’t.”
Despite trying a breathing exercise to stay focused, she just couldn’t fight the urge. When asked how she was feeling after the trial, she admitted she was “overwhelmed” with everything going on.
“I’m in the middle of an album rollout, and I have to go to court,” she said. “And then, when I get to court, I realise that it’s going to be on national TV, being televised. It’s like, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me’ … I missed my kids’ first day of school.”
Following the trial, Cardi warned that if anyone decides to sue her going forward, she wouldn’t be so kind about it.
“The next person who tries to do a frivolous lawsuit against me, I’m going to counter-sue, and I’m gonna make you pay, because this is not OK,” she claimed. “I am not that celeb that you sue, and you think it’s going to settle. I’m not gonna settle. Especially when I’m super completely innocent. I know I got a little reputation, but I swear to God, I’m innocent.”
