Cardi B cleared of assaulting security guard in Los Angeles trial
Cardi B has been cleared of assault in Los Angeles. The Bronx rapper was accused of attacking a security guard inside a Beverly Hills medical building in February 2018.
In the Alhambra, California, courthouse on September 2nd, all jurors agreed that Cardi didn’t swing at Emani Ellis or scratch her face.
While leaving the building, Cardi stated, “I will say it on my deathbed: I did not touch that woman. I did not touch that girl. I didn’t lay my hands on that girl.”
Despite saying she was leaving the case behind her, the ‘WAP’ artist threatened to take serious action if faced with false allegations in the future.
“The next person who tries to do a frivolous lawsuit against me, I’m going to counter-sue, and I’m gonna make you pay, because this is not OK,” she said. “I am not that celeb that you sue, and you think is going to settle.
“I’m not gonna settle. Especially when I’m super completely innocent. I know I got a little reputation, but I swear to God, I’m innocent. I swear to God. Like, I’m really innocent for real.”
According to Rolling Stone, Ellis’s lawyer, Ron Rosen Janfaza, said he planned to appeal. Reacting to the jurors’ decision, Ellis said, “I don’t think [the verdict] reflects the truth, but I’m not disappointed. We know that the justice system is sometimes flawed. Unfortunately, that was the case for me.
“I think we fought a good fight. More importantly, it’s about accountability. I had my day in court. I held my head high. I can walk away and say, I showed up, and she had to look me in the eye.”
Cardi was initially sued in February 2020, with the woman claiming she was “deeply traumatised” following the alleged incident.
