Boosie Badazz escapes prison time in federal gun case
Boosie Badazz avoided prison time during his sentencing on federal gun charges on January 9th.
The Baton Rouge rapper (real name Torence Hatch) pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm last year.
In a California courtroom, Boosie was sentenced to time served and three years of supervised release, as well as a $50,000 fine.
Boosie’s lawyer, Meghan Blanco, issued a statement following the sentencing, writing, “Mr Hatch was sentenced to time served, in addition to three years of supervision and 300 hours of community service. The resolution brings a sense of relief, allowing him to finally put this chapter behind him.”
She added, “He can now focus on continuing his music career, dedicating time to his family, and being a positive and inspiring presence for his children and the wider community.”
Following the decision, Boosie celebrated in an Instagram video. “I’m blessed to have my freedom,” he said. “It’s time to turn up now. I couldn’t do a lot of shit because of this situation that I was going through.”
He continued, “I got three movies ready, I got probably seven albums ready. I’m finna push the gas. I can do shows again. 2026, we lit.”
Before the sentencing, prosecutors recommended a two-year sentence followed by three years of supervised release. However, federal probation recommended four years.
Boosie begged for no prison time, with his legal team claiming he deserved structured probation and 300 hours of community service.
The sentencing stemmed from police spotting Boosie with a gun on Instagram Live. His lawyers claimed it “reflects a lapse in judgment rather than ongoing criminal behaviour” and that he made a mistake after “an approximately ten-year gap between his prior criminal conduct.”
