Boosie Badazz requests no prison time ahead of sentencing

Boosie Badazz has asked the judge for no prison time before he’s sentenced later this week.

On January 9th, the Baton Rouge rapper will find out his punishment for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Police spotted Boosie carrying a gun in his waistband on Instagram Live while filming a music video.

According to Rolling Stone, Boosie and his lawyer, Meghan Blanco, filed a sentencing memo on January 5th.

In it, they claimed the rapper (real name Torence Hatch) deserves two years of structured probation and 300 hours of community service.

They claim his decision to carry a gun in San Diego in June 2023 “reflects a lapse in judgment rather than ongoing criminal behaviour,” with the rapper admitting he made a mistake after “an approximately ten-year gap between his prior criminal conduct.”

The filing reads, “The offence conduct was limited, nonviolent, and isolated. Mr Hatch did not discharge a firearm or cause harm. No victim was identified, and the government has not alleged that the firearms were used in connection with any other criminal activity or broader criminal scheme.”

The memo comes shortly after prosecutors suggested a two-year prison sentence, while federal probation recommended four years.

“Defendant has clearly demonstrated acceptance of responsibility,” prosecutors said last week. “[Boosie] had a difficult upbringing, which likely contributed to his current predicament.”

Boosie claims he carried the gun for protection after being the victim of a Texas shooting, saying the incident “understandably heightened his sense of vulnerability and personal safety.”

The memo continues to say that Boosie is “a man who rose from extraordinary adversity, contributed meaningfully to his community, and has taken responsibility for a serious but isolated lapse in judgment.”
