Biggie Smalls’ mother is glad he never found out the “truth” about Diddy

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs was one of the key figures who helped propel Biggie Smalls into the mainstream and was his mentor for several years before his death. From producing to marketing, Combs was responsible for many of the hits we know and love today. However, Biggie Smalls’ mother, Voletta Wallace, is happy that the late rapper never got to “see how [Diddy] used his image and name.”

The Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs of the 1990s was seen differently than he is now. Many saw the Bad Boy founder as a mogul who helped Biggie Smalls earn a lot of money and become a millionaire. However, rapper Mark Curry has asserted that the Brooklyn lyricist was essentially broke after signing to Bad Boy because of Diddy’s alleged business tactics.

That said, Voletta Wallace has seen Combs as an insidious figure for a long time and, in her memoir, revealed that she is relieved Smalls never got to see the real Diddy. Wallace wrote that, long after her son’s death, Combs continued to profit off him instead of respecting his legacy. Voletta also unveiled she has not had a good relationship with Combs since Biggie’s death.

Addressing the incarcerated businessman, Voletta wrote, “I’m glad my son does not have to witness that the very people that he thought he could ride and die with wouldn’t think twice about using his mother. I am glad that he’s not here to see how they have used his image and his name.”

The emcee’s mom asserted that, in her opinion, Combs loved her son more when he was dead because he was pocketing so much money. Explaining this, Voletta wrote, “I believe Sean loved my son—after he was dead. I used to tell Christopher all the time not to trust Sean.”

There’s also no love lost between Volette Wallace and Lil’ Kim. In her memoir, Wallace recalled the first photo she saw of Kim after the murder of her son and angrily remembered, “The first picture I saw was Kim wearing my son’s mink coat, holding his chain, and wearing his hat. I was in shock; I felt violated!”

She continued, “I read the entire article and learned that not only was Kim wearing things belonging to my son, but she claimed that the home belonged to her as well. This experience helped me draw my own opinions about Kim. And they weren’t good.”

Since the allegations against Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs began hitting the news, Voletta hasn’t said much, but in an interview with Rolling Stone shortly after the Cassie Ventura footage leaked, his mother unveiled she wanted to “slap the daylights out of him.”
