Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ accused of using his mom for racketeering enterprise
On November 8th, a former affiliate of Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs revealed that he would be filing a lawsuit. However, he unveiled that he would not be taking legal action against the mogul himself but instead his mother, Janice Combs.
Many avid followers of the case were confused initially. However, during an appearance on The Trial Of Diddy podcast, the former gangster Deon ‘D1’ Best alleged that when he worked with Combs in the 1990s, he became aware that the musician’s mother was part of his operation.
According to Best, publishing rights, royalties, future earnings and vast sums of money were allegedly held in the name of Janice Combs, making it easy for the Bad Boy founder to circumvent lawsuits and keep a hold of cash that, in reality, wasn’t his to pocket.
During his appearance on the podcast, Best explained his association with Combs and how he believes he was manipulated. Best, who ran the production company Finish Line Entertainment, claimed that Combs regularly contracted the producers and musicians from his business to work on Bad Boy material.
He cited the 1999 platinum-certified Biggie Smalls album Born Again, Black Rob’s 2000 album Life Story and Combs’ Forever as successful projects that Finish Line Entertainment worked on but alleged that he has never seen a dime from any of them.
While on The Trial Of Diddy, Best detailed, “All of my publishing rights went to Janice Combs. I’m here to talk about a different section of his allegations… and what I feel to believe involves his mother, Janice Combs. The [Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act] is about holding people accountable for systematic actions.”
He continued, “You know, these actions have caused financial hardship, emotional hardship, but not only myself, but other artists in the business through what I feel was fraudulent and coercive activity. And I think that Janice Combs falls under those guidelines.”
Still, what’s more interesting is that other well-known figures have previously suggested that Janice Combs is an integral part of Combs’ supposedly criminal operation. Other artists who worked with Combs, including Mark Curry and Ma$e, have alleged Diddy was able to circumvent certain deals because he allegedly used Janice Combs to seal the deals.
In 2020, Ma$e responded to a comment his former boss made about needing “receipts”, ranting, “How dare this n*gga talking about he want receipts! Let’s start with your mother, n*gga. Your mother got the receipts, n*gga. Everything is in your mother’s name. That’s the one who’s got the receipts, n*gga!”
Janice Combs has been fairly quiet about Combs’ charges. However, in October, she released a brief statement reading: “It is heartbreaking to see my son judged not for the truth, but for a narrative created out of lies. To bear witness what seems to be like a public lynching of my son before he has had the opportunity to prove his innocence is a pain too unbearable to put into words. Like every human being, my son deserves to have his day in court, to finally share his side, and to prove his innocence.”
She is yet to respond to Deon ‘D1’ Best about his forthcoming legal action.
