Akon claims YSL Rico case could break Young Thug's career

Senegalese-American singer Akon recently unveiled that if Atlanta rapper Young Thug cooperates with law enforcement in his RICO trial or gives up any information, his hip-hop career will be over.

Speaking with DJ Vlad for Vlad TV, Akon (real name Aliaune Thiam) unveiled, “The question is he willing to cooperate to save himself and his family. Is he willing to take that mud in the face?”

He continued, “He has to decide whose life is more important — their life or the people he’s trying to impress… Being known to the world as a snitch is the biggest embarrassment to the world.” However, Thiam still believes that Young Thug (real name Jeffrey Williams) should do whatever it takes and put family first instead of focusing on his career at present.

Strangely, Thiam believes that if Young Thug snitched his career would be able to survive, but in another genre, “His career will be over. It will be over. If he does do music, it ain’t gon’ be hip-hop because hip-hop they will cancel him. The good thing about him is he’s so talented this n*gga could do pop music or country.”

However, he reasserted that hip-hop would be a no-go for Williams, exclaiming, “Them white folks don’t know nothing about what’s going on in the streets. They don’t give a fuck. So he would have to switch genres altogether to even have a chance, but hip-hop — forget it.”

This stance from Akon is unusual when one considers that he was one of the only artists to work with Tekashi 6ix9ine following his legal case that saw him give up several gang members for his own freedom.

Concerning Young Thug’s trial, earlier this month, Williams’ attorneys filed a motion to dismiss his case due to delays. However, the appeal will not be considered until next year. You can hear Akon speak about the YSL artist in the video below.
