6ix9ine sends public apology to Cardi B

‘Gummo’ rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine has recently surfaced to publicly apologise to his New York counterpart Cardi B after he referenced her during his 2019 legal battle with Shotti and the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods (NTG). The rainbow-haired rapper rose to prominence between 2017 and 2018. However, his faux-criminal lifestyle and affiliation with the NTG landed him in court after in-fighting led to several members being imprisoned for racketeering, weapon possession, and conspiracy to commit murder.

The Bushwick rapper (real name Daniel Hernandez), with the help of UMG label 10K Projects, was at the forefront of hip-hop before his court case and, for three years, was the most dominant and controversial emcee in the culture. Hernandez’s brand involved goading other artists, stirring up gang-related controversy in every major US city, and tastelessly flaunting his wealth.

However, following in-fighting within the NTG, in 2019, Hernandez had to fight a court case relating to his involvement with New York gangs, and while cooperating with law enforcement, 6ix9ine highlighted Cardi B as someone who was affiliated with the Bloods. Hernandez and Cardi B (real name Belcalis Almnzar) were the most prominent New York artists in 2019, and following his unnecessary mention of Almanzar, hip-hop labelled the Bushwick native as a “snitch,” a “rat,” and much more.

6ix9ine faced a possible 47-year prison sentence, and while under cross-examination in court, the official transcript reflects that Hernandez confirmed the ‘Bodak Yellow’ star was a Bloods member. However, the Dummy Boy musician has recently revealed that his issue with Cardi B was more nuanced than it appeared. Hernandez has disclosed that (as part of the Latino community) his ex-girlfriend Jade and Cardi had many mutual friends and, at one point, even had a feud.

Speaking on Alofoke Radio about the mother of his child, who he is no longer with, Hernandez divulged, “My ex had problems with Cardi. Who I’m with, I’m loyal to her. But we are cool.” After extending an olive branch and apologising, 6ix9ine revealed that he releasing a new album. This comes as a shock to many as for three years, he has been silent.

Following his release from jail in 2020, the colourful emcee released his single ‘GOOBA’, which featured on his album TattleTales. He garnered a lot of attention as people were eager to hear about the details of how and why he snitched on members of NTG. However, after the initial explosion, his relevance dwindled. His new project will be a fully Spanish album as the disgraced Brooklyn rapper looks to capture the Latin market.
