Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre are back and working on a new album

Snoop Dogg is one of hip hop’s most beloved MCs. Rising to prominence by the side of Tupac and Dr Dre on Death Row Records, the rapper (real name Calvin Broadus) is loved for his unique tone, funky West Coast raps and laidback delivery. Known as hip hop’s marijuana maestro, Snoop is an iconic figure in the culture.

Dr Dre is an iconic figure as well. Both artists worked alongside each other during the 1990s on Death Row Records and with Dre’s ingenious churned-out G-funk classics. Whether it’s The Chronic or Doggstyle, both artists are legendary, which is why it is welcome news to hear that they are back in the studio working on an album together.

With a working title of Missionary, this album marks 30 years since the two first collaborated on the iconic song ‘Nuthin But A G Thang’, and this joint album is an exciting prospect for fans of 1990s hip hop. It is even more thrilling for fans of G-funk.

Recently appearing on the K[no]w Mercy podcast, Snoop let it be known that Dre is handling the production side of the album. However, that does not mean he won’t lay down a verse or two. With regard to the time and effort they’re putting into the project, Snoop disclosed, “Me and Dr Dre have been working on an album for the past two months.”

The ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’ rapper also revealed that the album is set to be released on Death Row Records, a label that the Long Beach rapper now owns. Speaking on the album’s working title, Snoop comically divulged, “The first album was Doggystyle…”. He needn’t say more.

Snoop has always produced albums and singles with religious undertones. Whether that’s ‘From The Chuuuch To Da Palace’ or his mixtape series Back To The Church, Snoop has always had religion in his music.

Having just worked with Eminem for his new single on Curtain Call 2, it looks like Dre has finally got his Aftermath crew back together and ready to bring fans fantastic music. You can see a tweet from Mathers below showing the three in the studio.
