Prosecutors attempt to revoke Young Thug’s probation over alleged threats
Prosecutors want to revoke Young Thug‘s probation after accusing him of violating terms on social media. They say the Atlanta rapper (real name Jeffery Williams) “demonstrated a blatant disregard for the law, the safety of witnesses, and the integrity of judicial proceedings.”
The filing cited a photo he posted of Marissa Viverito, an investigator with the Atlanta Police Department who was involved in his YSL RICO trial. In the X caption, he wrote, “Biggest liar in the DA office.”
Viverito is testifying in a gang murder preliminary hearing, in which the court ordered her not to be shown on TV. Prosecutors say a blogger violated the order by posting her image online with the caption, “She doesn’t want to be shown on screen? Well, here she is.”
The woman’s and her parents’ addresses were then posted online, and the motion claimed Thug’s post played a significant role in spreading her identity.
Thugger defended himself following the filing with a post on X. “I don’t make [threats] to people I’m a good person,” he wrote. “I would never condone anyone threatening anyone or definitely participate in threatening anyone. I’m all about peace and love.”
In a statement to Variety, his attorney, Brian Steel, said, “This motion is baseless. While intimidation and threats of violence are never appropriate, Jeffery Williams has done nothing wrong. We look forward to seeking a dismissal of this petition.”
Thug was released from prison in October after accepting a plea deal in his RICO case, and he was sentenced to time served and 15 years of probation.
“I take full responsibility for my crimes or charges,” he said before walking out of the trial. “I want to say sorry to my family, my mum, my managers, my kids and everyone involved. I am a smart guy with a good heart, but I found myself in trouble because I was too nice or cool.”
He added, “I hope you allow me to go home today and trust me to do the right thing. I promise I won’t be in this situation again. I’ve learned from my mistakes.”
