Young Thug hits out at Billboard’s ‘Best Female Rappers’ list
Young Thug has recently spoken out about a list assembled by Billboard, which ranks the 25 best female rappers of all time. The list includes a mix of old-school and newer female MCs. However, Thugger isn’t too pleased with how the list turned out.
The Jeffrey creator is currently in a seemingly happy relationship with Atlanta singer Mariah The Scientist. However, in Thugger’s eyes, she can rap as well, and he has taken issue with the fact that Billboard staff (who compiled the list) decided to leave her out of the top 25.
Many have reshuffled the list and made some of their own adjustments, as rankings are always going to cause debate. However, nobody has yet to remove someone and add a new lyricist. Young Thug’s comments have been mostly biased. Responding to DJ Akademiks’ post, Thug wrote, “Where Mariah at tho?”
Although Mariah The Scientist isn’t a rapper, and most people haven’t taken the YSL emcee’s comments too seriously, many hip-hop fans have taken serious issue with the list and its order. In the eyes of many, it is catering to the old school and downplaying newer female artists.
The 25-artist list ranked Nicki Minaj as the number-one female rapper of all time, followed by Missy Elliott, Lauryn Hill, Lil Kim, and Queen Latifah, who all managed to make the top five. However, newer MCs like Latto and Doechii managed to make it onto the list despite being relatively new in the game.
Still, Young Thug wants his girl to be included on the list. From what the public knows, Young Thug and Mariah The Scientist started dating sometime around November of 2021. However, strangely, their official status as a couple was only confirmed when Thug went to jail amid the YSL RICO case.
Still, the extremely long, gruelling trial didn’t seem to have an effect on their relationship, and they have come out the other side looking stronger. However, they have still decided not to collaborate as artists for the time being.
