YG explains why he won’t release a ‘Fuck Donald Trump’ sequel
YG has explained why he won’t be releasing another anti-Donald Trump song.
The Compton rapper dropped his protest song, ‘FDT’, an abbreviation for ‘Fuck Donald Trump’, in 2016, in the lead-up to the US presidential election.
During a recent appearance on Big Boy’s Neighborhood spoke about the Secret Service intervening.
“A lot of people be asking me that like, ‘Bro, is you going to do part two?’” he said. “I’m like, ‘Listen, man. I got a lot of street shit going on. I got a lot of other shit going on. I don’t want no smoke with them people.’”
He continued, “I still be going through that. When I’m doing certain shows they be like, ‘We want him but he can’t do ‘FDT.’ My team was like, ‘Yeah, bro, just to let you know, it’s in the contract you can’t do ‘Fuck Donald Trump’. If you do ‘Fuck Donald Trump’, they ain’t got to pay you.’”
‘FDT’ served as a collaboration with the late Nipsey Hussle and appeared on his Still Brazy album. It reached number 50 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and has been certified gold by the RIAA, having sold 500,000 units.
YG has opened up about the Secret Service getting involved in the past, claiming they were trying to stop the album’s release altogether.
“Secret Service hollered at the label,” said. “They asked if they could see the lyrics on my album to see if I’m talking about it on my album. ‘Cause I’m talking about it on my album, they gon’ try to take it off the shelf.”
During an interview with Billboard, YG once said, “It got to a point where [Trump] was disrespectin‘, saying shit that makes no sense. Me and Nip always talk about doing real shit about these politics, stepping up and saying stuff other motherfuckers are not doing, so we finally hit the studio and really did it.”
