Nipsey Hussle posthumous album gets release date
A release date has been announced for the first Nipsey Hussle posthumous project.
The Crenshaw rapper was shot and killed in 2019, but now fans will finally get to hear some of his unreleased music.
This week, it’s been announced that Nipsey’s collaborative album with Bino Rideaux, Prolific, will be released on August 14th via Atlantic Records.
To coincide with the news, a new single titled ‘Sacrifices’ has been released, which includes a guest appearance from James Fauntleroy.
Prolific was officially announced in February alongside the first single, ‘Reckless’, produced by Mike and Keys and Static Major. It was confirmed for release this summer.
The project was recorded before his death, serving as Nipsey and Bino’s second joint album following No Pressure in 2017.
Nipsey’s brother, Blacc Sam, previously discussed the intentions of his estate when it comes to posthumous releases.
“If Hussle didn’t actually do the verse or work with the person or put together the blueprint for the project, we not doing it,” he told Brown Bag Mornings. “He did something with Bino, and there’s a new project that we’re about to release. This was a project that he had with Bino that was pretty much like 80% finished.”
He continued, “So the team kind of came in, got some unreleased verses and music that he had done with Bino and just tightened it up. It sounds amazing. It should be coming out around this summer. The team is real excited. We just finished going over all the stuff for the last three weeks with everybody.”
Nipsey released his only studio album, Victory Lap, in February 2018. It peaked at number four on the Billboard 200 and was nominated for ‘Best Rap Album’ at the Grammy Awards.
