XXXTentacion’s killer says he isn’t sorry for his crime

In 2018, Dwayne Ricardo Onfroy – better known as XXXTentacion – was murdered in Deerfield Beach, Florida. After withdrawing money from an ATM, the young rapper and rising hip-hop star was followed back to his vehicle by a group of men before being robbed and, eventually, fatally shot by Michael Boatwright. Now, the perpetrator has made some bold claims via social media, namely that he is “not sorry” to have killed Onfroy.

Boatwright, who is currently serving two consecutive life sentences in prison for the premeditated murder of XXXTentacion, had a long criminal history even before the murder in 2018. Back in 2013, while still a teenager, the Fort Lauderdale native was arrested for assault and battery shortly before again being arrested for dealing both cocaine and heroin. In the years between those charges and the murder, Boatwright was arrested and charged multiple times for drug possession and dealing.

In total, there were four men involved in the murder of XXXTentacion, with Trayvon Newsome, Dedrick Williams, and Robert Allen acting alongside Boatwright. Of those four, Allen is – thus far – the only individual to express remorse for the killing. Allen also cooperated extensively with law enforcement on the case, in addition to providing information on the infamous Miami street gang ZMF, with which both he and Boatwright were affiliated.

Not only has Boatwright not expressed remorse for his actions, shooting the rapper three times unprovoked, but he has repeatedly mocked XXXTentacion via social media. Most recently, he wrote, “Y’all just judge me off this one thing,” referring to the premeditated, first-degree murder that he was charged with.

“Y’all know bout me but y’all don’t even know the truth behind all this,” the murderer continued, “I’m not this evil person that everybody think I am and nobody even known me as a person y’all believe in everything u see on social media, I’m not sorry for nothing I did.” Boatwright concluded the post by writing, “#itsstillfreeme.”

Previously, Boatwright was criticised for social media posts in which he appeared to mock the rapper’s son and widow via Instagram Stories. Posting from his incarceration at Wakulla Correctional Institution Annex in Florida, the inmate added crying laughing emojis over a post of XXXTentacion’s son, Gekyume, looking at photographs of his deceased father.

For the murder, Boatwright was sentenced to serve two consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole, in addition to an extra 30 years on top of that for unrelated charges. When his verdict was announced in court in 2023, Boatwright smiled and blew a kiss to the family of XXXTentacion across the courtroom. At current, there are no signs that he will ever be released from prison, despite his social media pleas.
