
Woman arrested and charged with killing North Carolina rapper
Durham, North Carolina, rapper Billy Resio was shot and killed earlier this month. Now, a woman has been charged with his murder.
26-year-old Kiara Mangum was arrested on January 22nd and charged with four felonies.
According to The News & Observer, these include one count of murder, one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflicting serious injury, and two counts of felony conspiracy.
As of the morning of January 23rd, Mangum was being held at Durham County jail without bail.
Resio was driving on Hillsborough Road in Durham on January 4th. A car pulled up to the passenger side, with Resio and a woman being shot.
The rapper was pronounced dead at the scene after being shot in the neck, while the woman was shot in the head and survived. She was left in critical but stable condition.
Resio (real name Irease Jeffrey) is best known for songs such as ‘No Lie’, ‘Bonnie and Clyde’, and ‘Labeled Me Top Shotta’, a collaboration with NBA YoungBoy. He was signed to Rich Nation Entertainment, which is run by Michael Mitchell.
Paying tribute in an Instagram post, Mitchell wrote, “REST IN POWER BILLY RESIO. I don’t even know how to type this… my heart is broken in ways I can’t explain. Today I lost my artist, my brother, my family.”
He continued, “Billy Resio was taken from us way too soon in Durham, NC, and this pain is something I wouldn’t wish on anyone. I loved that kid for real. He wasn’t just talent – he was pure heart, raw truth, hunger, and loyalty. He believed in the vision, and I believed in him.”
