Wiz Khalifa responds to backlash after punching 13-year-old son
Wiz Khalifa has responded to criticism after posting a video of himself punching his teenage son.
His son, 13-year-old Sebastian ‘Bash’ Taylor Thomaz, recently celebrated his 13th birthday, with his father giving him “birthday beats.”
The tradition, also known as “birthday licks” or “birthday digs,” involves someone being punched, typically on the arm, for every year of their birthday.
Wiz shared a video of Bash leaning against a wall with his hands behind his head as he gave him light punches in the stomach. He wrote alongside the video, “We still doin’ birthday licks in this house!”
However, the clip ended up receiving backlash online, with some people criticising Wiz for punching his son. The rapper came across the response and addressed the incident in a live stream.
“The internet has decided that they don’t remember rituals like kids getting hit 13 getting licks for their birthdays,” he said. “Everybody gets their birthday lick.”
He continued, “It’s not a big deal to lightly tap somebody in the stomach on their birthday. Like, when I put the video up, I didn’t even think that nobody would even have a problem with it.”
Wiz initially celebrated Bash’s birthday by praising him as “kind, caring, intelligent, a great big brother, and the perfect son.” His mother, Amber Rose, also marked the occasion, describing him as her “sweet angel.”
Bash was born in February 2013 and is the only child of Wiz and Rose. The rapper also has a daughter, Kaydence, born in July 2024, whom he shares with his current partner, Aimee Aguilar.
Wiz released his latest mixtape, Kush + Orange Juice 2, in April 2025. His last studio album, Multiverse, arrived in July 2022.
