Wiz Khalifa hits out Drake for suing Universal following Kendrick Lamar feud
The Drake and Kendrick Lamar feud was one of the most enthralling musical events of 2024, and the beef has spilled over into some very strange places. However, almost everyone in the culture has an opinion on the battle, which has resulted in Drake’s lawsuit against Universal Music Group (UMG).
That said, Pittsburgh emcee Wiz Khalifa recently opened up about Drake and his thoughts on the multiple petitions filed against UMG. During a recent appearance on the Club Shay Shay podcast with Shannon Sharpe, the ‘Black & Yellow’ rhymer unveiled that he is not surprised Drizzy decided to involve lawyers in a rap beef.
Concerning the feud between the two artists, Wiz said that he’s happy the duo are starting to be real with their emotions, telling Sharpe, “‘Bout time. I’m tired of n*ggas acting like they’re cool with each other. Just speak how you really feel, bro.”
Wiz then said of Drake’s lawsuits, which accuse UMG of defamation and using streaming bots to boost Kendrick’s diss song ‘Not Like Us’ is something he could imagine the Toronto native doing, whimsically stating, “It sounds like a Drake move to me.”
He added, “He’s a musician and businessman, so if he’s not in the public eye winning musically, he’s gonna get a win wherever he can. I mean, it’s a smart thing to do. They’re playing it exactly how they’re supposed to.”
Shannon Sharpe asked the ‘On My Level’ musician if he believes that there is genuine animosity between Drake and Kendrick or whether it’s purely for entertainment, to which he responded, “Nah, I don’t think them n*ggas fuck with each other at all. It’s just how the industry is, and all of that’s coming to an end now, and it’s all spilling out, and you’re getting to see it. But this is also like wrestling as well, so the same people who are arguing can be cool instantly. So it’s like, don’t get too caught up on the animosity part — not them, but in general, people will be hugging later.”
Wiz Khalifa is not the only rapper who has weighed in on Drake’s legal action against his longtime record label. 50 Cent recently offered his theory behind the move during an interview with Cam’Ron on his Talk With Flee YouTube show.
During his appearance, Fifty explained that, in his opinion, Drake’s true intent is to stop Kendrick Lamar from performing ‘Not Like Us’ at next year’s Super Bowl halftime show. The Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ creator added, “I’ve never seen that before. I’ve never seen a rap battle end up in a lawsuit. But I thought that was Drake’s team trying to prevent the Super Bowl from doing more damage.”
