Why was Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs arrested in 2015?
The legal issues of Sean “Diddy” Combs have become notorious.
But the man’s problems with the law run deeper than the accusations that have become such a bleak cultural talking point over the last number of years. He has been arrested numerous times throughout his life.
One such arrest occurred back in 2015, when Diddy was taken into custody during a trip to the University of California, Los Angeles campus. He was suspected of assaulting someone there with a deadly weapon, the police later said in a statement.
The weapon in question was a kettlebell, used for weight training. This, clearly, could do a lot of damage if wielded against someone, so the notion that he may have attacked someone with one was very serious.
As it happened, nobody was reported as badly injured in the wake of the alleged kettlebell attack. But what actually had taken place? An investigation was launched, but, in the immediate aftermath of the incident, details in the media were fairly scant.
Further context to the story did emerge later, however, when it was reported that Diddy’s son, Justin, was a football player for the college team. This, it seems, was where the problems began, as the alleged victim of the attack was later reported to be the team’s coach.
A narrative emerged that suggested this coach had yelled at Diddy’s son, while Diddy himself was standing there on the sidelines. He did not appreciate the coach’s actions.
An altercation apparently then occurred, but thankfully nobody was hurt. Things could have gone another way, though.
Diddy was released on bail following his arrest, and, in the end, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office took the decision not to file assault charges against him. His legal team had insisted that he’d been acting in self-defence.
