Who's Ha Ha Davis? Chance The Rapper’s mystic collaborator

Chance The Rapper’s 2016 mixtape Colouring Book was a critically acclaimed body of work that rode the wave of the emcee’s groundbreaking 2013 project Acrid Rap. With appearances from the likes of Kanye West, 2 Chainz, Young Thug and more, the tracklist boasted a range of stars. However, there’s one mysterious figure who appears that few know about.

The album with songs such as ‘No Problem’ featuring Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz also hears the voice of Ha Ha Davis, who on the track declares, “You don’t want zero problems, BIG FELLA.” However, the vocalist goes uncredited.

Ha Ha Davis (real name Carlos Davis) is a Detroit comedian who has deep links in the world of hip-hop. He has not only worked with Chance The Rapper (real name Chancellor Bennett) but has also appeared in various music videos, including Lil Nas X’s ‘Old Town Road (remix)’ and Big Sean’s ‘Single Again’.

Furthermore, he featured heavily in Bennett’s 2021 documentary, Chance the Rapper’s Magnificent Coloring World. Concerning Colouring Book, Ha Ha Davis appears several other times on tracks such as ‘All Night’ and ‘Blessings (Reprise).’

Colouring Book was a big launching pad for Ha Ha Davis as the track ‘No Problem’ won a Grammy Award for ‘Best Rap Performance.’ Furthermore, the entire project won ‘Best Rap Album’, and Chance won ‘Best New Artist’.

Since 2016, Davis has appeared in Da Pop-Up Movie, Domino: Battle Of The Bones, The Come Up and the TV series Detroiters. When asked by StockX about looking back on Colouring Book, Davis stated, “One thing people always ask me is they want to know how it was working with Chance [the Rapper].”

He continued, “I love Chance to death, but that was five years ago! You can’t keep dwelling on that, you know? But it’s dope, Chance is my bro, and it was dope being a part of his album.”
